Can You Put Algae Eater Fish With Gold Fish?

The only time in my experience the algae eater will bother the goldfish is if he's extremely hungry due to lack of food. I've had a pleco in my goldfish tank for a long time without any problems, but I make sure to feed him pellets that drop to the bottom of the tank when I feed the goldfish.

It is a bad idea.  The Algae eater enjoys the taste of slime that coats gold fish and will eat on him causing him stress and serious health problems.  Personally I had an algae eater co-exist with 2 gold fish for a few weeks, I added a 3ed gold fish and he began to systematically pester all of them.  The new one's skin became very damaged before I could remove the algae eater, he might not make it.

I have had 2 Plecos in my 50 gal outdoor cement pond ( I live in Southern California) with 10 goldfish for the past 6 months, none of the goldfish are damaged in any way.  I do ensure I feed the goldfish everyday then just before dark I will toss in a couple wafers for the Plecos that sink to the bottom for them.  When I purchased all these fish for the pond they were about 2.5 to 3 inches long now 1 goldfish and both Plecos are about 8-10 inches long and large.  None of them seem to be in any distress.  It was a surprise to actually get a good look at the Plecos the other day and I was amazed at how big it has become.

So I don't feel there is a problem putting the 2 types of fish together, at least they seem to be thriving in my pond.

Maybe you should ask a petstore worker. I know that gold fish can be with other fish as long as they wont hurt each other.
