Your dog has diarrhoea, which can be caused by any number of things, such as eating something he shouldn't have done to an infection. The danger of diarrhoea is that it can cause dehydration, which can be very dangerous, so encourage him to drink as much water as possible, though try to discourage him from gulping it too quickly.
The diarrhoea may stop as quickly as it started, and if this is the case, then you will need to do nothing further, but if it carries on, or if your dog is showing other signs of being ill, then you really need to take him to the vet so that he can be diagnosed and treated. If the thought of taking him to see a vet scares you because of the expense, just think about how much more it will cost if he isn't treated and then needs emergency attention.
It isn't difficult to know if a dog is not feeling well because their whole attitude to life changes. They become quiet and listless and if they are in pain, you can actually see it in the expression in their eyes and faces. Not wanting to eat or drink is another symptom of illness, as well as the more obvious symptoms like vomiting, diarrhoea, bleeding, coughing, drooling, shivering, seizures, whining, listlessness; in fact many of the symptoms that we would display ourselves.
The majority of dogs tend to be quite stoic because they are hard wired to when their species was wild. Being ill then made them vulnerable to attack so they would try and cope without showing that they were unwell. This means that when our domestic dogs are showing us that they are not feeling well, then they really are not.
