It can work. Some ferrets and rabbits get along famously. I have pictures of ours with a large rabbit. None of them would bother him.
It all depends. First off, most ferrets are pets, and have never been around rabbits. They are not ruthless killers, and only bother rabbits unless they have been taught to kill rabbits and are pretty hungry. Unlike in the UK where hungry ferrets are brought out to the fields and put down the rabbit holes, US ferrets as pets are always well fed, and even when they're not, they don't know a rabbit is food.
That being said, you have to watch them together until you know how your ferret reacts. There are some ferrets who can't even be around dogs or cats because of how much they bother them, provoking them to bite. Ferrets were bred to annoy, not to kill, rabbits - which means nudging, pushing, jumping on them, but not killing them. A ferret who kills the hunter's dinner underground is not of great use to them.
