External, middle and internal ear infections can cause pain which can leads head shaking and pawing in the ears. This infection can be due to bacteria, virus, fungus, trauma, parasites, cancer, polyps, foreign material, and allergy etc.

Diagnosis of ear infections is done by physical exam, complete blood tests, x-ray, allergy test, and skin scraping. Treatment depends upon underlying cause. Antibiotics for bacterial infection, anti fungal for fungal infection and anti allergy for allergic problems are recommended. Cleaning of ear canal is also recommended if ears contain wax or foreign material. So, take your dog to vet.

Have you checked for ear mites? Get a ear wash and soft rag and gently wash out his ears. Grant you he probably won't like it the first time but this will help.

Well you can go to the vet get him some itching medicine. And for the ear ache get him some ear drops at the pet store or local vet. I know all of this because of my mom she takes dog pictures. One of my first words was dog. Well I hope this works so um I have to go so see you later if you have any questions ask your dogs vet. If you don`t have one you should get one!
