When they "gasp for air" it is usually an Ammonia prob. Test the water and do a 50% water change. Make sure you neutralize the Chlorine if it is town water.

Our office goldfish is floating at the bottom of the tank and is not eating, he has also been hiding inside of the decorations and floating on the bottom of them.  We had a small tank but recently upsized the tank to give him more room to move around.  The signs that have just described were already showing when he was in the other tank along with floating on his back.  He will swim up some and then sink back dwon to the bottom....we moved him to his new tank and we have not seen him floating on his back however he is still floating on the bottom and not eating.  We tried the english pea trick but he did not eat it either.  We have had him for almost 9 months and he is our office pet, we have grown attached to him and don't want him to die.  Can someone please tell us what to do
