It is not one reason but owing to a number of reasons collectively that make panda an endangered species.

The first and foremost is the threat on their habitat; pandas love to live in wild and they feed mostly on bamboos. The explosion in the population of China, the native country of pandas, lead to the cut down of large swath of jungles and the pandas are exposed to the people that lead to the reduction in their number.

Another reason that is responsible for the reduction in their number is their poaching for fur; they made quite attractive garments with that.

In spite of all these adversities it is noticed in recent years that the number of pandas is increasing and the credit goes largely to the awareness among the authorities about this beautiful animal. Now we can hope that even generations afterwards the world will be able to see this beautiful species.
