There are many reasons behind the extinction of rhinos.
1. Rhinos are killed by the hunter for their precious horns, because their horns contain keratin, which is used in expensive medicines.
2. Sumatran Rhinos can live in tropical rain forests only, which are geographically very scattered. These scattered locations hinder their population to grow or reproduce prolifically.
3. Rhinos have poor sight. They get alarmed even when there is no threat out there for them, and often collide with trees and rocks by mistake. This act also leads to their frequent deaths.

Rhinos or Rhinoceros are one of the five surviving species of odd-toed ungulates, from the family Rhinocerotidae. Three of these five species are endangered. The rhinos are prized for its horn. These horns are made of keratin, which is a type of protein that makes up hair and fingernails. These horns are very much in demand all over the world as they are used in traditional Asian medicine, for dagger handles in Yemen and Oman. It is also used as an aphrodisiac in Traditional Chinese Medicine. That is why many hunters are always on the hunt for Rhinos. This practice has been continued since ages as the value of these horns have been high even historically. Due to excessive hunting of these animals, they are virtually becoming extinct. And that is why they are considered as endangered species.

The rhino is a very large, primitive animal. It has looked the same for thousands of years. It has not changed at all. There are two different types of rhinos. There are black rhinos and white rhinos. Both of these rhinos look basically the same. Both of them have two horns on their head, but the black rhino has three toes on each foot. Their horns are made of keratin. Keratin is the same stuff that is found in human fingernails and hair. The black rhino is almost extinct. There are only about 3,500 black rhino in existence. However, there are around 11,000 white rhinos in existence. The rhino is slowly becoming extinct. There used to be other types of rhinos such as the Indian rhino and the Sumatran Rhino, but they are extinct.

There are several foundations that are trying to preserve the few rhinos that are left in the world.

Many reasons. Hunters are hunting them down and killing them. Hunters are also hunting down the prey of the rhinos , so logically , they are dropping down in numbers because there is no food for them to feed and survive on.

They are becoming extinct due to illegal poaching. Many Africans believe that a rhino horn can cure disease yet it is made of keratin which also makes our hair and nails so basic eating rhino horn is equal to biting your nails.

According to my knowledge, rhinos` horns were once considered priceless in ancient China, therefore people killed most of them to get the horns and present them to the emperors, it is said the last rhino that was found in China was 60 years ago!
