When Will Shih Tzu Get Pregnant?

Puberty in dogs is achieved in 6-12 months of age. Usually dogs get their first heat cycle at 6 months of age but it can be delayed as well. The heat cycle can continue for 3 weeks. Your dog can show the symptoms of swollen vulva and bleeding.
According to health standards, dog should not be bred in their first cycle of heat. If you are interested to have pups then wait for second heat cycle which can start after six months.

Well they go into heat at 7 to 8 months of age they spot for 2 weeks and are in heat for 3 weeks that last week of no spotting they are more acceptable to getting pregnant but I would not breed her on the first heat due to she is not matured enough and grown enough . I would breed on the second which will either be 6 months after first or 1 yrs. Some dogs are different some come into heat every 6 months or just once yearly. When you do breed her and she is pregnant feed her puppy chow that will help her and the puppies.

You can buy dog fertility test sticks . Which you wet with the bitches urine . These tell you when she is ready . This period is usually about fours days , near the end of her heat . She will not go out of heat when she catches , so don't look for signs . When its been four weeks after , you can use a human preg. Test to see if she caught . In first phase of heat your pet will get attracted towards its male. At the end of this phase on almost eleventh day it will become receptive to male. Second phase is actual fertilization phase. In this phase discharge color will be changed to light pink and swollen vulva will be soften. This stage last for five to nine days and female is ready to breed in real sense. Yes it can sometimes last for 20 days but not very often. When this stage ends up female does not accept male any longer. So last days of first phase and through out out second phase there are chances of its getting pregnant.
