I have a very small Shih Tzu that is 6 years old and her tongue is extra long as well - she always has it poking out of her mouth while she is sitting and sleeping. The vet said there is nothing wrong with her - she just has a long tongue! I think she is absolutely adorable. = )

I have a shih tzu who has a very very long tongue.she is now 9 months old. When she was 8 weeks old it was a lot longer. She has kind of grown into it. The vet said she was fine and not to worry.her tongue is still long and still sticks out even when she shuts her mouth..your shih tzus not alone in this.it is cute.

I have a six year old male Shih Tzu with a very long tongue that sticks out all the time. There is nothing wrong with him. He is so handsome and extremely intelligent.

If your dog is not any problem then it is OK. Examine the mouth of your dog and note any sores, ulcers, broken teeth, swollen gums, tumor or growth etc. If so, then visit to vet.
some dogs extend their tongue on extremely hot days. Many dogs have habit of stretching full tongue. So, in my opinion you need not to worry.

I've had 2 shih tzus my 1st one had a long tongue that hangs out when she sleeps but there's nothing wrong with him..and my current dog she has a very long tongue that always sticks out and the vet said it's ok also..theres nothing wrong with it..I think it's really cute..because it gets dry when she's sleeping..LOL..

Haha.. I have one and she is oh my god so cute when she sticks out her tongue we always make fun of her when she does this we would always stick out tongue out at her too she is always doing it all the time when she is a wake and a sleep I don't ever think she puts it away, it does get dry but we put a lil water on it and then she puts it up for a bit but thats all its ok there is nothing wrong with her,
