Drooling can be normal for some dogs and abnormal for others depending upon breed. You have not mentioned breed of your dog in your question. Dogs can also drool under some specific stimuli like food, excitement, and heat etc.Other than these conditions sudden and excessive drooling is not good signs. It can be due to many reasons like gum & dental diseases, tongue injury, stomach disorders, mouth ulcers, tumors in mouth, and due to some metabolic disorders. You should look for other signs of illness like lip or mouth swellings, foul odor from mouth, breathing problems, vomiting, lethargy and weakness then take your pet to the vet.

It can be just a new 'smell' or one they don't like very much. Any new pets in the house? It can also be a bad taste. Or it could be a sign of toxicity, and upset stomach, dehydration, a spider bite, first sign of a virus or bacterial infection, even seizure and many other things. Is there anything else going on? Any suspicion that your pup could have gotten into anything? That could be the first sign your pup ate something bad but then they might not show signs of being poisoned for even a week afterwards (and even a few days may be too late) and it's best to try and get that taken care of as soon as it happens.
It may be best to just call your vet and talk to them and that way they are on alert if you need to run in suddenly or can go if you need to if they are still open or be prepared to go JIC. Hope your pup is okay.

What is breed of your dog? Some breed of dogs drool more than others. A sudden increased drooling in dogs can be due to illness and needs visit to vet. There are many reasons of drooling in dogs like gum problems, dental diseases, tongue injury, stomach problems, mouth ulcers and tumors, metabolic disorders etc. Other signs like lip or mouth swellings, problems with swallowing, foul mouth odor , breathing problems, vomiting, lethargy etc along with excessive drooling indicate serious problem. So, you should discuss your local vet.

That could be a sign of a kidney infection or bladder infection.  Or is he/she doing it when excited.  Or if he is getting older then maybe he/she is unable to hold it as long as before.  May be you need to take bathroom breaks more.

Could be that something bit him, or he ate something that is making him do this, I think you should take him to the vet as soon as you can, just in case it is a poison. Hope this helps, good luck to you.
