My dog looks sad and won't eat. What can I do?

If your dog is looking depressed and is not eating, then this is a clear sign that something is not quite right. Unfortunately, these symptoms are rather vague, and as such, mean that there could be a number of things wrong with your dog.

Sometimes, these symptoms are linked with a mental problem, such as stress. Numerous things can cause dogs to be stressed, especially changes in routine, in the family, or around the house.

If this is the case, then It may take time for your dog to adjust and get back to normal.

However, these symptoms may also be the indication of other problems such as:

  • Allergies. These can affect the eating habits of your dog, and can cause it discomfort. They are relatively common. Luckily, allergies can be treated by your vet quite quickly.
  • Infections can also have these effects on a dog. Bacterial, fungal and parasitic infections can become serious, so it would be best to ask a vet to check your pet out.
If these symptoms persist, then take your dog to the vet.

Some dogs will not eat unless they have done stuff to make them hungry and tired - like long walks and playing. This could be why he's sad, too.
