I took him to the vet and she said his thyroid is overactive.

Only a vet can answer that question after he has examined your cat.
Have you had it checked for tapeworm? He is quite old for a cat although some live to be a lot older, he may also have an intestinal bug but tapeworm would be my first guess.

My old cat is the same. Eats and drinks....but thin. Now he could not even lift his head and could no longer walk but still eats a lot. We have to take him to the bathroom and encourage him to go. He is like skin and bones.
