I had a dachshund, and he used to have seizures all the time, which I was told was a trait for their breed. I never had him treated for the seizures, and they would pass. He lived to age 15, when he passed away from a tooth infection, which I was told is also common for dachshunds. Good luck with your pup :)

I'm not sure. I'm just going through this now. My 9 yr old german shepherd has just started having cluster seizures and the vet put her on phenobarbital. This is her first day and she seems very drugged up. No energy at all. This is the worse thing I've ever been through. Its very scary to me. Her blood-work was fine. I don't know what is causing her to have seizures all of the sudden, but I am praying that the medication works and that she becomes active again.

I had a dachshund who did this. Have your vet check this out. My girl started having seizures. It was determined that My girl had a stroke. The stroke caused confusion. Some of the medication given is very hard on their kidneys. They can overheat quickly during a seizure.

I also have a dachshund who is 2 years old and has just started getting seizures and cluster seizures and I was told it is more than likely epilepsy and he now takes medication everyday to control it... But I would agree that you should take him to the vet for a professionals opinion.
