The main diet of pandas is bamboo. Their diet also consists of honey, eggs, fish and yams. Although the pandas are carnivorous, their diet in recent years consists of shoots and leaves. Since they lack enzymes to digest the bamboo, they survive with little energy and little protein. However, in zoo's pandas are generally provided with specially formulated biscuits or other dietary products.

A panda generally grows up to .5m long and around 75cm tall at the shoulder and a short tail that's just 15 cm long. The male pandas weigh around kg (253 pounds) and the female pandas weigh around 100 kg (220 pounds). They thrive in the in mountainous regions, such as Sichuan, Gansu, Shaanxi and Tibet and are native to central and southern China. They do no hibernate. They usually have a life span of around 20 to 30 years.
