Well the normal average of puppies given by a Basset Hound in her first litter is 5 to 7. You can get as few as 5 and as many as 7 or even 8. This is an average rate. But you never know the rate can increase or decrease.
The first time our basset hound had puppies she had a litter of ten puppies! If you want to avoid a big litter try to keep the male and female apart...the litter can increase with each hook-up.
Our basset hound just had her first litter in june and she had 14 puppies and 11 made it and were sold. Her second litter she just had 12 and 11 made it.
