If the red and yellow rings touch then it is a Coral (Red and yellow will kill a fellow) if the red and yellow rings are separated by black then it is a King snake. Can tell by the head too. Nose black, then yellow followed by red, and so on.

Yea, that's right the other type of snake is a king snake I think, which mimics the coral snake pattern. You can tell by using the rhyme septic said, but coral snakes ARE DEADLY, don't approach it unless your absolutely sure its not a coral snake.

It is either a coral snake - venomous or a milk snake - non venomous
here is a rhyme to help tell which is which
red touch black=ok jack - milk snake
red touch yellow=kill a fellow -coral snake

Well, I believe it's a coral snake there is another snake that mimics it and there is a way to tell which one is the deadly one. I believe they go like this. Red before yellow will kill a fellow and red before black step back.. That is how to tell which snake it is. If its a coral snake. Chances are you'll never make it to the hospital.keep away from both to be safe. Call animal control if it frequents your home.
