Some shops selling ornamental goldfish and aquatic plants sell dried insect eggs and larvae along with the more usual flaked or pellet form of manufactured fish foods. However, it is much more interesting to gather your own. Kenn gardeners will often stumble across ants'nests while forking over the soil or even in a cool temperature compact bin. They are unmistakeable as the ants will scurry around in a panic and the eggs will show up in the dark soil as hundreds of little off white or brownish dots like bleached out caviar. You can make this job of tracking down an ants' nest easier and less hit or miss by watching out for ant activity. Once you look carefully you will often spot lines of ants trailing to and from a crack in paving or the earth. Get a small box such as a large cook's matchbox and ppace it upside down near to the nest's entrance. Disturb the soil a little over the nest to stimulate the ants. They will eventually transport some of their eggs to the illusory safety of your box. Hey presto! A free snack for your fish.

Kimberly, yes, the task is not too difficult. The thing is that if you want to taste sturgeon malossol caviar from this goldfish, it is not necessary to do it on your own. You can, for instance, buy it.
