The term "fan tail" could be a combination of different types of goldfish. Ryukins, orandas, shubunkins and lionheads can often get mixed up and breed together. Their offspring are simply called "fantails". Some of these goldfish types may take 2 or 3 years before they mature enough to have eggs. When you see spawning activity where the female is being chased by the male, it may take several hours for the female to lay all of her eggs.

I Have A Small Fantail(The Tag For It Said Calico). She Has Gotten Very Round In The Tummy Region(Both Outward And Down) And Is Swimming With A Sort Of Struggle. My Boyfriend And I Noticed Like 10 Days Ago. Is It Pregnant? How Long Until She Lays Eggs? And If They Are Fertilized How Long Will It Be Until They Hatch?

My baby goldfish took about a week to hatch, but everything I found of the computer says it could be 2 days to 1 month.
