Sorry to hear that. It was probably parvovirus, more commonly known as parvo
it's an intestinal virus that causes your dog to vomit. Dog's don't typically eat or drink when they are just going to throw it up. Parvo is a killer because the dog dehydrates. You have to get an anti-biotic and slowly give the dog water. After about 12-24 hours, your dog will start getting energy and hungry, give them food a little at a time to keep them from being sick. Now that you have had an animal with parvo, if it is parvo, you need to bleach everything. Parvo can be transmitted through hairs, saliva, urine, vomit and feces. You need to bleach any clothing, fabrics or surfaces your dog was in contact with. You will also have to bleach your yard if the dog was out there. It's a possibility it was already in the yard if you just moved or have never had a dog. It can live in the yard 10 years. Use 1 part bleach to 10 parts water and spray the entire yard.
