We have a Jack/Chi(his name is Levi) or at least the vet said he was 90% Jack but he came with papers that said he is a full Chi. He is 11 years old and he is so loving and mild natured. He never barked much until the last few years and really its not that much. He is not snippy in any way. Never has snipped. Can take a bone from him can put my hands in his food dish etc.. His ears looked like a Jacks for the first 8 years  and then all of a sudden one started sticking up and now both stick up straight. So sweet natured. I would recommend this breed to anyone. Great family pet and friendly with company. He does not listen off of a leash its like he can not hear. He really is very sweet and loving.

I have the most amazing dog in the world and he's a "Jack Chi" or a Jack Russell/Chihuahua Mix.  He's wonderful with kids and strangers, doesn't bark unless he feels threatened (rarely does) or is playing, is SO SMART & easily trained, walked with my husband and I off-leash after we had him only a month (and he's about 1 year old), is constantly at my side even to the point of CONSTANTLY burrowing under my blankets to lay on or leaning on my legs! Lol ...AND he's quite the ratter too! He's already found 2 moles on our property (and promptly tossed their tiny, squeaking little bodies up into the air, immediately snapping their necks) under 3 feet of snow! It just took him 2 days to finally dig deep enough to get them since I kept interrupting him! He's quite the piece of work with TONS of personality! He's the BEST decision my husband and I have made in years! We just adore him, as do our Pit Bull and Bull Dog (who he is constantly TRYING to get to play with him, though he has WAY too much energy for the 2 of them!) AND OUR CAT (who is his best best friend ever! As they QUICKLY made BEST friends!:) I just prolly wouldn't have them unattended around small animals, rodents in particular. :) Not that you should leave ANY DOG unattended with small animals! :) The only REAL OBVIOUS "Chihuahua traits" are his "apple head," size/weight and constant shivering. :) Otherwise he's all Jack Russell.  You just (like any dog) need to take the time to train them and be strict because if you give an inch the smart lil jerk's will take a mile! ;P -...and if you want to see pictures, just click on my Facebook link and go into my albums. He's in my pet album PLUS I have video posted of him playing with his kitty buddy. :)

My sister has a Jack Russel/Chihuahua mix she is is 16lbs. Blonde all over. She was hyper when she was younger. She is the peace maker of our family. We have one Chihuahua/pomerain mix and four full Chihuahuas. Yes our house is noise. Don't need an alarm system. When any of the other dogs start to fight, Charlotte the JR/Chi mix will stop it. She will pin down the one that started it. But, she is one of the most loving dogs we have ever had.

A good resource would be to try AKC.com - look at all the toy breeds and see what traits are similar to your pup. Of course this will not be a definitive answer, but might be fun to guess. Also any dog can be mixed with any other breed - purebred or mixed variety.

I have wondered that same thing, myself. My Granddaughter's dog, Oscar, (both live with me), is supposed to be pure Chihuahua, however he is 14.9 lbs and not fat. He has beautiful big ears that stand straight up, has a little longer nose, is black with white patch on his chest. He's handsome and gets lots of comments when we're out, but is very big for a Chihuahua.

I owned a 7 lb. Chihuahua, 2 years ago. Unfortunately she lost her life. I had been given a book about chihuahuas. There are so many different ones, I couldn't believe it. Little ones, big ones, short hair, long hair, skinny ones and fat ones. Mine had short hair and was very nice, in fact, my vet told me if I was going to breed her that it should be with a "nice" chihuahua, so see, there are nice ones and mean ones, too. My son and daughter-in law just recently bought one for my grandchildren and it is little and fluffy, alot of hair.
What is strange, the only resemblance that theirs and mine had was the bulgy eyes. They also come in alot of different colors. There are also American and Mexican Chihuahuas. I learned all of this out of a book, I had no idea. Yours probably is one of the larger chihuahuas and probably is a pure breed. Who knows?

They can be bred.
I have a Jack Chi that I happened upon at my local Humane Shelter. We lovingly call him our Taco Terrier. He is very affectionate, loves EVERYONE especially children. He loves to give kisses and will sit content for hours at at time. But also sometimes he feels the need to use my house as a race track, and he chews on cardboard like crazy. They have their ups and downs just like any breed, but I think the fact that he is so friendly and not aggressive makes him worth it.
There are some good pictures of them if you google "Chihuahua Jack Russell mixes."

Yes you can but its highly dangerous. When we re-homed our king charles holly the lady who had her had rescued a dog which was that breed and was going to be put down but she rescued it and my mu sed it was bow legged and very nervy so I don't recommend it
