No!! It is best not to, four hours is not long at all. Some chicks can take up tp 12 hours to break free from the shell. It is not safe as it is harmful to the chick to help them out of the shell, the chick needs to absorb the yoak and the ''umbilical cord'' needs to dry up. If you interfere by breaking the shell and ''helping'' then the chick can bleed to death. Please do wait and let nature do the work... If it has been longer than 12 hours and the peeping subsides then you can intervene.
