Your all wrong except for 2 of you..
Color distinguishes species you goofs. Not sex. Green = moist areas, brown = dry (desert type dry). Also used for camoflauge..

Sex I.d= abdomen areas males have 8.. Females start with 8 then during molt becomes 6. Females are also thicker then males.

And no its not true that females don't have wings yes they do have wings, only certain species of females don't have wings and they are usually found in desert areas where they don't have to fly to the top of anything. But most females do have wings.

They are highly evolved insects, scientists are fighting over wut origins they came from; roach family or cricket/grasshopper family.. Obvious its not the roach family, as roaches r herbavores and eat at night, mantis are carnivores (they eat any live prey they're size including birds mice and snakes --aside from they're large apatite for eachother-- thats right they are canibals too.)

they are very intelligent. They have 1 ear = to bat ears (hense y they tense up and stall in mid air when a bat squeeks near them).. They hunt like cats.. They eat like spiders.. And they act like us.

You can tell them apart because the female is much much bigger than the male

Generally the major difference between the female and male mantis is that females usually have heavier abdomen and are larger than males.

Males wings also extend passed the abdomen, whereas the females generally rest about 3/4 of the way down.

Female praying mantis often eats the male after mating.
Male praying mantis is not known to ever eat the female .. He is the menu!

Females are much more pleasing to the eye than the male. Male is skinny with long wings. Female has large rounded abdomen/tummy with much stronger looking front "arms", and shorter wings.

This picture shows the male as being brown, and the female green. The male is often just as green as the female but they both tend to camouflage to whatever colour (of brown and green) that they are sitting on.

He is right, they do act like us. I have been dating one for a month and I swear she bites my head off at the drop of a hat.  I also saw what I believe to be a gang member mantis in low ride skinny jeans through signals after my fence was tagged.  Perhaps they will have the right to vote one day but not so fast---they do not pay taxes (as far as I know).  I used to work with one who eventually was fired< we never said anything but truth be told the firing was a descrimination suit waiting to happen.  We were all weirded out by the presense of the mantis --especially around lunch and she seemed to be with a differeent guy everyday.  If you ever need a good baby sitter they are very loyal and your child will be safe from attacks by birds and small animals (mmantis sized)

Not true. Males have 8 abdominal segments by their final molt and longer antennae. Female's have 6 abdominal segments. Colour is no indication of sex.

You can sort of tell by looks...a male praying mantis has wings, and a female does not.
