How Long After The Mucus Plug Passes Do You Have To Wait Till Your Dog Gives Birth?

Instead of looking on shedding of mucus plug, look for signs of labor. The mucus plug is lost in dogs 4-5 days before delivery. Sometimes, it can be lost 7 days before delivery. Following signs of labor indicate that dog is going to have puppies within 8-48 hours.

1. Agitation
2. Restless & pacing
3. Loss of appetite
4. Reduction in rectal temperature below 100 F
5. Nesting behavior

These signs are clear signs of delivery of puppies.

After losing mucus plug, dog can deliver puppies within next few hours. Very soon she will strain to push puppy out and become restless and pacing.

Most of the time within 12 hours. Usually much sooner.

Its just depends on if its the dogs first time or not, when its the first time having pups take longer can be a couple of days or almost a  week   when they start leaking so much it means they are ready so just need to watch out and make sure you know where is she having the pups coz they freak out and have  them in different places..

Dogs lose mucus plug just before giving birth. When mucus plug is lost then you can expect birth of first puppy within an hour or 2.
