Maybe you should take it to the vet to be checked to make sure he or she is alright.

Shivering in dogs can be normal under some conditions like exposure to cold conditions and after swimming. But dogs also shiver due to some medical condition which should be investigated by the vet. Following are some medical causes of shivering in dogs.
  1. Pain
  2. Skin parasites
  3. Flea infestation
  4. Nervousness
So, shivering can be sign of illness in dogs. If your dog is also showing some other signs like loss of appetite, lethargy, walking difficulties etc then take him to vet for diagnosis and treatment.

My shih tzu is shaking and when I pick her up, she starts yelping like something is hurting her. What could be wrong

Of course you need to take it to a vet but feel around its body and if your dog starts to yelp that is where she is hurting. Or it could be you are holding him/her wrong. If your dog is shaking maybe you could just turn up the heat a little.
