There are so many different answers here!!!! I have been breeding Shih-Tzu for 10 years and my experience is they usually have a litter of 4, although they can have as many as 12 and as little as 1. You really have to hope there are more then one in oven because it will be a big pup and your Shih-Tzu may need a C-section. I would have x-ray done on the dog on the 50th to the 55th day to do a puppy count, in the even that one doesn't come out. Then you have an emergency on your hands. ]

A female will ----what it called as "blow their coat" A unspayed female s hormones are such as when in season there hormones will--- its hard to explain, but its like the hair growth stops at the same time---so you now notice the hair loss, then the hair growth starts at the same time. Many human women experience this same thing. I am not saying this happens with every female, as I have one right now that has not lost any hair, on the other hand my other female has lost quite a bit of hair. The same process happens with a pregnant female, actually more so with a pregnant female.
