What Do Gerbils Eat?

Gerbils like to eat lots of things. They like fruits: Grapes, apples, cherries, strawberries, and bananas. Vegetables: Carrots, lettuce, tomatoes, celery, peas, swede, cauliflower, kale, sprouts, broccoli, spinach, and cucumber. Seeds and grains are also liked by gerbils - sunflower, pumpkin, and lots of other seeds and grain cereal. Too much green food can cause diarrhoea, and can make the gerbils ill. Fruits and vegetables should be only given a few times a week as they are often only used as treats. Another food liked by gerbils are the food bought in the pet shop, as they are full of nutritious goodies. Other foods that gerbils like include: Raisins, oats, apple sauce, peanut butter, unsalted peanuts, diarrhoea, and parsley. Do not feed your gerbil: Citrus fruits -oranges and limes, chocolate and potatoes.

What people usually feed there gerbils and what gerbils eat is mixed food brands I buy Fiesta for my gerbil and they love it but it does come with a lot of sunflower seeds in it so if you don't want to take the time to pick the sunflower seeds out, the reason you should pick them  out is because they love them so much and if they eat to much of them they can become fat also they make a great treat and are good for hand training later on,anyways another brand I would recommend that comes in a bag that doesnt have any sunflower seeds in it is called ecotrition. Gerbils also love dried corn and dried peas. And if you want to hand train them use pumpkin seeds sunflower seeds also they love the little yogurt treats that you can find at pet stores (I found them at petsmart) don't give them seeds as food only as treats or snacks. Otherwise they could get sick or fat. If they start getting fat buy them the well balanced food at (petsmart) and buy them a wheel you have to be careful with the wheel they can't have holes and if they do cover them several times with duct tape otherwise they tail could get chopped of.

You can't feed them chocolate. And don't let them drink anything but water. They can drink other things, but not much. Drink to never give your gerbil include: Fruit juices, coffee, or drinks w/ a lot of sugar in them.
