Yes. My top two list is:
1. German Shepherd
2. Doberman Pinscher
If there wasn't a German Shepherd then the Doberman Pinscher would be the best guard dog ever. But that is just my opinion.

The Doberman Pinscher was bred in Germany by Herr Doberman.
He wanted a large, brave and impressive-looking dog to help him
with his job of tax collecting, but none of the breeds available were
to his taste. Since he also happened to the the town dog catcher,
he decided to create exactly what he wanted. And he used what he
'picked up'. I believe that there were seven breeds used to make
the final product, but I can't think of them just now.

Doberman pinscher is placed under the working dog group. When it come to the guard dogs Doberman pinscher takes a high position among the rank of guard dogs. Due to its excellent reflexes, Doberman pinscher is something more than excellent in the matter of guarding. Having kept a lot dogs, what I have concluded is that Doberman pinscher is almost at the top in the rank of all the guard dogs.

What I observed was that Doberman pinscher was actually more active at the guarding times like in the evening. It was more active than it used to be in the morning or after noon. Doberman pinscher's nature is marked by extreme aggression and loyalty that are two key features in the matter of Guarding. Doberman pinscher is a hyper active dog and as it has cool reflexes it can simply perform better than others.

When used in pairs the Dobermans pinscher show better guarding than other breeds of dog. It is advisable to use Dobermans pinscher in pairs as this thing increases their abilities to a good extent. Summing up, Doberman pinscher proves itself as a guard dog. However, special care should be taken if you have Doberman pinscher in a house where children live.

Extreme aggression IS NOT a doberman pinscher. It is alert, loyal, obediant and very very loving. They ARE not aggressive unless mis-used or trained to be such.

I disagree. Your dog must have been frustrated or something because every doberman I have had has been nothing but sweet, confident, obedient, and loyal.

One of the best! I do highly suggest you put you and your dog their obedience training courses so you will know how to handle this large breed. You can ask your local veterinarian, PetSmart, police precinct, and possibly even the humane society as to where you can get your dog trained the way you want him/her.

Agreed! I grew up from age 3-13 with a doberman. ..he was with me at every moment during those years and noone, NOONE ever tried to mess with me while walking or playing my neighborhood. If you train  a Doby right, you have one of the greatest dogs available to man today at your side. Once my daughter is 5 yrs old, she will have a Doby at her side as well.
