Your dog may faint, wobble when he walks, be disoriented. Dogs don't have very efficient cooling mechanisms. The way they dissipate body heat is through their paws and by panting. That's why it is so deadly to leave a dog in a parked car. The results can be devastating. If your dog is exhibiting any of these symptoms, give him ice cubes to lick. You can hose him down with cold water. Put him in a tub of cold water. Put alcohol on his paws (the alcohol will evaporate and help to cool his body down).
In most normal instances, a dog will be able to regulate his body temperature just fine. A locked car, a brutally hot day with exercise, no shade from the Florida sun, closing up in a car (oh my god!!) or a shed....all of these things can be deadly. Be alert to your dog's distress. You're the only help he's got.
