Heat cycle in dogs can last for 21 days but sometimes, it can be longer up to 4 weeks. Fertilization of the egg takes place at mid of the heat period during second stage of heat cycle. If conception takes place then fertilized egg can take 7 days to implant in the uterus and there will be a gestation period of 63 days. If dog does not get pregnant then she will go in to the fourth stage after 7 days. During this stage, both male and female dogs have no attraction for each other.
So, after 21-28 days, starting from the first day of heat cycle in dogs, heat period is over when both sexes have no attraction for each other. This means heat period is over and this condition can continue for 5-6 months or until start of next heat period.
