The Lipizzan! Other breeds originated in Czechoslovakia (the Shagya Arabian, the Hucal/Carpathian pony) , but the Lipizzans are the ones that only come in black and gray. They are often said to originate from Austria, but that isn't true. Not sure if this is right, but I hope so! Beautiful horses, I love them. ♥

The horse breed that actually originated in Czechoslovakia was the Kladruber. It is a strong harness horse, and is quite old as far as the time of origin goes. It was believed to have originated in Czechoslovakia sometime about 400 years ago. Ironically, many people often mistake, because of its name and its characteristics, the Przewalski horse breed to have originated in Czechoslovakia. However, that is not quite true, because the Przewalski originated somewhere in Mongolia, it is believed, where they were discovered in 1879.

There are a wide variety of horse breeds all over the world, each with specific characteristics and suited for specific tasks. Some may be good show horses, some may be good for police and army work, and some could be great work horses. The environs in which the different breeds developed over the centuries go a long way in determining what kind of work a horse is suited to. There is a lot of material available on the originating countries of the different horse breeds.
