If your dog is having watery mouth due to stimuli like excitement, exposure to heat and food then it is not a medical illness but normal. Otherwise, sudden and excessive watery mouth in dogs can be due to
  1. Mouth ulcers
  2. Mouth tumors
  3. Tongue injuries
  4. Gum diseases
  5. Tooth or teeth diseases
  6. Some metabolic disorders
Examine the mouth of your dog and if he has no apparent problem then metabolic diseases are expected. In this case only you local vet can help you. So, it will be better to take your dog to vet for the diagnosis and treatment of watery mouth.
