When dogs stuck during mating, a term called tie is used. Tie is one of the acts of mating in dogs that usually occur but dogs can become pregnant in the absence of tie because sperms are released immediately after penetration then swelling of penis takes place and result is tie.

If this tie does not occur, sperms are already released required for pregnancy. So, dogs can become pregnant even in the absence of tie but this can increase the chances of pregnancy. Tie in dogs can last for 2-30 minutes.

Yes she can getting stuck just insures it but if they don't get stuck she still can be pregnant she 'll have them within 60 days

You don't need them to tie or get stuck to have a successful breeding.  My dogs just bred and only got two ties the rest she pulled away from him just as the swelling of his penis started.  You could hear a yelp everytime.  The get a tie when the males penis swells and it can take a while for that to go down.  They took about 20 minutes to separate.  Either way there is no guarantee that she is pregnant .  Watch her and pay attention for sign's. At five weeks take her to Vet for palpation for pups.

It is a part of the normal mating ritual for dogs to tie. 

My dog didn't tie and is expecting puppies so maybe not.
