It is not very sure that why the species hyracotherium got extinct but one probability can certainly be cited. Primarily the species feed on soft grass and it might be possible that owing to some reasons the grass was no longer could be found on the land. Probably they were not been able to get their food and get extinct. There is also a possibility that they had evolved themselves into horses and thus survived in the world.

They are considered to be the earliest members of the family of horse but the size was not more than what of a dog. They were used to live in Northern Hemisphere and were probably lived during the Eocene period that existed from sixty to forty-five million years ago.
