I know for me, as a parent I do not want the extra work it takes to take care of a pet. Maybe your parents are the same and if you tell them you promise it won't make them have extra work cuz you will do everything. The be sure to keep your word and their trust. That's how my kids got lizards. Lol!

Good for you for mentioning a vet. Some people don't take that into consideration or even care. Vet bills could get as high as $100 dollars or more depending on office visit prices, shots, medicine and anything the vet might have to do after a checkup. Like YoWanna said, make sure you hold up your end of the bargain if your parents let you get a cat. But in the end, if you are living in your parents home, nobody here can tell you how to convince them. It is their decision to make.

Don't buy from a store. Adopr from a rescue shelter.

Its a big commitment. 10 or more years if you are lucky ☺

Yes pets can run one into lot of vet bills that's why there is lot to think over before you get cat . I mean you can almost get a rescue cat for almost nothing from the shelter but than again the answer would be can you afford one? Plus you mentioned about your dog, how good does your dog get along with other animals? Have you ever had a cat around your dog ? These are things you need to consider and my advice is think this one over cause you want be able to afford the vet bills plus you want your dog to be able to get along with the cat  so these are things you need to think over.
