My vet always recommends shredded broiled chicken mixed with rice for my dog, when she is sick.
My dog can't have grains so I don't give rice. I use boiled or steamed potatoes instead. Also a little canned pumpkin helps. Use pumpkin puree and NOT pumpkin pie filling. You can add boiled chicken breast or lean ground beef as well.
