There are a number of things that can cause a brown rash and itching on a dog's stomach. Some of these are:
  • Allergic reaction
  • Dermatitis
  • Other bacterial infections
  • Irritated skin
Dogs can suffer allergic reactions to a number of things, and these reactions can cause itchiness and a rash. Pollens, insects, and dust cause the most common allergic reactions in dogs. The itchiness this can cause in dogs can be extremely uncomfortable.

Dermatitis is common in dogs and this can also lead to a rash on certain parts of the body, including the stomach. Itchiness can also occur, and this can be distressing for the dog.

There are a number of bacterial infections that dogs can contract. Some of these are:
  • Aspergillosis - affects mainly the nasal area
  • Brucellosis - very serious, and can affect the sexual organs, as well as the eyes and the kidneys
  • Clostridium - caused by high temperatures and hunger, affects the stomach area most and can be quite serious
  • Ehrlichiosis - caused by ticks, normally affects the area where bitten first, but can spread
Dogs can get irritated skin from a variety of household items. Some of these items include carpet cleaners, polish, rubber and plastic. The skin can become red and sore if the dog comes into contact with these items, and has an adverse reaction to them.

If a dog shows the symptoms of illness, with itching or rashes, it is advisable to seek the advice of a vet straight away, so that the correct form of treatment can be administered.

Rashes can be related to contact allergic reaction, bacterial infection, yeast infection, mites, or other dermal parasites.  Chronic allergies are another common cause of rashes in dogs.  Long term skin issues can lead to pigment changes and darkening of the skin.  Your dog needs to be examined by a veterinarian.
