Can hawks attack dogs?

Hawks rarely attack dogs but if they do it would be a smaller breed of dog

When I saw this question, I was reminded of this shocking YouTube video:

Yes, it's slightly different in that it features a Golden Eagle trying to carry a baby away... However it might give you some idea of just what a large bird of prey is capable of.

But to answer your question more directly:

If your dog is fairly small, then I it's entirely possible.

If you take a look at what a hawk's diet consists of: Frogs, bats, rabbits, squirrels... These creatures are all much smaller than the average dog.

But if you then compare the size of a rabbit to a chihuahua puppy for example, then you begin to see which breeds might be in the "danger zone".

So while reports of hawk attacks on small dogs are fairly rare, here's some heart-warming proof that they DO happen:
