Why would my dog have swelling in between its paw?

Chances are a bug/ant bite here but could have a splinter or sticker too but most dogs will chew them out so I would have to go with bug bite.  If he looks like hes in pain, you can give 1 baby aspirin per 24 hours to help with pain but make sure he drinks which usually isn't a problem for dogs. Watch for swelling of paw and/or leg as then its time to visit your Vet.  Good luck

Yes Arthur is correct, it sounds like either a foreign object has become embedded, or an insect bite has occurred.

During the summer my dog sometimes gets 'pad burns' from running on hot surfaces all day too.

Try soaking the paw in Epsom salt. That seems to be good for most everything. If it's still swollen go to the vet,
