First of all make sure you have a plecostomus and NOT a chinese algae eater. CAE are HORRIBLE fish that are great at eating algae when they are babies, but soon start harrasing you tank fish and are better off left at the fish store. If you have a true plecostomus then I hope you have a BIG tank at least 55 gallons. These guys can get over 15 inches long and live 10 years or more. Make your pleco happy and he should leave your goldie alone. Give him a big cave to shade his eyes in during the daytime. While he WILL eat algae, he also thrives best if he has good veggies too. Give him blanched zucchini at least once or twice a week along with algae wafers from your pet store. Goldies like the same food too, so wait until you turn out the lights for the night so the pleco can enjoy his meals. He's trying to eat the slime from the goldie because he is still hungry. Extra pleco meals should make him leave the goldie alone.
