Puppies may sleep anywhere from 15 to 20 hours a day or even more. In fact they should sleep for many hours and at regular times during the day. This helps in their normal growth and development. The owner should make them go to sleep early and, likewise, make them get up early. Puppies should be exposed to the sweet early morning air for healthy growth.
A puppy sleeping for long hours is a normal part of its routine and not a cause for concern. The required amount of sleep would depend on their age and the environment in which the puppy will grow. Newborns will sleep more than older ones. If there are other pets and children in the house they may sleep a little less.
However, one should watch out for other clinical signs such as vomiting or diarrhea and not wanting to eat, if such signs are absent, one should not worry about the sleeping. The puppy is just a baby and just like human infants they may sleep as much as 20 hours a day and as it grows older it would be more active and playful.
