Why do hamsters muscles stiffen when they pass away?

A lot of things stiffen after death. Look at a malnourished plant for a great example... And even human bodies stiffen after death. We just rot and smell because we compose a higher level of chemicals.

The same thing that causes all other animals and people to stiffen. Called "Rigamortis" pronounced
rigor mor´tis  the stiffening of a dead body accompanying depletion of adenosine triphosphate in the muscle fibers.
