How long after pups born do they pass the after birth?

There should be one placenta per pup and if free whelp the Dam is better off not eating too many as it tends to cause gastric upset. 24 hours after whelp the Dam gets checked out for complication like retained pups or placenta that may decay and cause nasty (deadly if not treated asap) infection, rupture, torsion and things like that. If it doesn't seem they have expelled everything they should have quite yet the vet will probably give an injection to try and prevent and reduce possibility of infection and speed up the cleaning out process.
The pups go in day 2 to 5 usually for their first check up and dew claw removal and tail docking if that's done. After that it's scheduled maintenance and check ups on the pups and any time there is concern or things seem off with anyone. Good Luck.
