if your dog is not taking water, this is a serious condition. Dogs who are 'sick' will not take water and this is a vital symptom that something is wrong with it. Dogs dehydrate quickly. You need to get a sports bottle of pedyalite, or a sports drink or even water, and squirt it into the back of the dogs mouth. If you can pick him up like a baby, it is easier to do. Get him to a vet! Every few hours, make sure you get some fluid into him, until you can get him to a vet! It may just be a problem created by the change in environment. I think it is better to err on the side of caution. Every day, offer him a bowl of water, when he begins to drink, then you know he is well.

I adopted a dog from my local SPCA. She seemed in good health. Then I found out she had been hit by a car and got after a porcupine. Shortly after having her I noticed she did not want to drink water or eat dry food. I gave her canned food for several weeks then started mixing it with dry and adding a little water. Towards night she would eat this. When I first got her took her to the vets and she had a real bad ear infection and a bladder infection which they said had cleared up after medication was gone.  She was still digging her ear so took her to another vet had her teeth cleaned and they said she had residue in her ear they couldn't get. Once in awhile she will get a big drink of water out of her dish but most times I use a syringe and put it in her mouth and she drinks it. Vets said she needs to drink more or will get UTI back.

I agree with pencil, and I must say NO MILK I'm sorry, but it causes diarrhea and other not-very good problems. But try giving it water for a few days before you go to a vet... Vets are expensive, even for a check-up
