Allergies are a common cause of dermal irritation in dogs. Allergies include contact dermatitis, environmental allergies, food allergies, and flea allergies. Dogs with allergies chew, lick, and bite their body--this further damages the skin leading to secondary infections (yeast, bacterial, and mites).
Your dog needs to be examined by a veterinarian to help establish a diagnosis and treatment plan. Allergies are about control not cure.
Before you appointment you can start your dog on Benadryl--the dose is 1 milligram per pound of body weight given by mouth twice daily. Do NOT use the Cold and Sinus variety-only plain Benadryl is safe. Also stop him from licking his feet with an Elizabethan Collar--chewing will only make the rash worse.
