The Bald eagle, which is said to America's national bird, has very powerful flight. It weights somewhere between 7 to 15 pounds, measures up to 3 feet in length and has a wingspan of about 8 feet from end to end. Their normal flight speed is said to be 20 to 50 mph. They primary food is fish and most of the time this is obtained by first locating the prey that lies close to the surface and then swooping down to get it.
While on its way to fetch its prey, its diving speeds increase sharply and can go up to a 100mph. This also means that the pressure that is exerted on each of its powerful, long and sharp talons (that it will use to grip the prey) is somewhere around 1,000 pounds /sq inch. Bald eagles have been known to fly to heights that as high as 10,000 feet. They are also capable of staying in the air for hours together using the natural wind and air currents along with thermal updrafts to aide their flight.
