Okay, the 2 people who responded on here - seriously?? Why even bother?? "Because you have not gently cleaned it off and are not checking her bottom regular enough". That's your answer - for real?? Guinea pigs are supposed to have small pellet like solid poop - that's why he or she asked the question!! Your answer is like this, someone asking "why is my child throwing up", and yourselves answering "because you didn't do a good enough job as a parent to clean it up". Does that make any sense to you? Obviously this owner knows HOW to clean it up, what he or she doesn't know is why a guinea pig would have a big clump of poop stuck to it's rear.
My guess would be impaction. I think it happens to most male guinea pigs, and actually, mine guinea pig is going through it right now. Only another problem with him is that he can no longer walk either (he is about 8 years old), so basically, because his poo is coming out in large clumps instead of the small pellets that it used to, he is stuck sitting in his own poop all day. I do give him baths, but cannot do this every day, because it causes him even more discomfort and because he is possibly in pain. So all I can do is move him around in the morning before I go to work and then when I get home and a few times in the evening.
It's disgusting, and I truly think his quality of life is gone so am trying to get the courage to put him down but it's just so sad. But if your guinea just has the clumping poop problem, take him to the vet and get some vitamin c. It used to help my guinea out a lot, he's just gotten too old and has too many other problems. I have to grind up the pellets and mix it with water and syringe feed it to him (the vitamin c).
Best of luck
