A 3 pound Chihuahua is a "Runt", which means it's the smallest puppy in the litter. She's too small and it's too dangerous for her to be bred. "Runts" should never under any circumstances be bred!!! Their tiny bodies are not built to carry and whelp (deliver) puppies. They are too tiny and way too fragile! Being that the female is so tiny and the male is larger, poses and even bigger risk, of your female dying. Females should only be bred to a male that is smaller than they are, but both your male and female are Runts and neither one of them should be bred at all! Both of your dogs are under the standard weight of 6 pounds and they are considered to be Runts. If you have never bred dogs, especially Chihuahuas before and you don't know how to spot complications, how to assist in whelping, or when it's time to take your dog to the vet for a C-Section and you don't know what you are doing, or you don't react fast enough, your female can DIE! I really don't think, that's what you would want to risk, happening to your female. Standard size Chihuahuas are known to have complications and need C-Sections and some die, if the owner or person who breeds them doesn't know everything about the Chihuahua Breed and everything about breeding Chihuahuas! Chihuahuas should only be bred by someone who knows exactly what they are doing. I used to breed Chihuahuas, but before I did that, I researched for years and I never lost a female or any of the puppies. I Never even considered breeding any of my Runts and I never did! I don't breed anymore and my males and females are all Spayed, Neutered and Microchipped now. The picture that I put up is, of one of my Chihuahua Runts named Zoe! She is 3.4 pounds and she is from a standard size male and female. Her brother Gizmo, is 6 pounds. I cannot even begin to imagine, if you look at Zoe's size, breeding her and her becoming pregnant, Ever! You can see how tiny she is! I could not risk or put her through the trauma! I still have Zoe and Gizmo with me today! Breeding is expensive, if you do it responsibly, properly, for the right reasons and it's a 24/7 commitment and responsibility. There is a lot involved in breeding. It's not just putting two dogs together and hoping the female gets pregnant. Please have your male Neutered and your female Spayed! They will be happier and healthier in the long run! By asking this question, I would assume this is the first time you have ever considered breeding! Please don't risk your female losing her life, just because you want her to have puppies!
