I would not recommend giving your dog a human pain relief tablet for pain.
This is mostly because it could contain chemicals or elements harmful to your dog. Aleve is a drug mostly used for relief of inflammatory and arthritis like pain symptoms, but even if your dog does have these symptoms, I would not recommend giving the dog Aleve.
There are several over the counter drugs specifically for dogs that you can buy from larger pet stores. These will be more appropriate for your dog than human medicines.
If you are worried about your dog, go to your local vet. They will be able to diagnose what is wrong with your dog and tell you what the best medicine to buy for your dog is. They may prescribe your dog something, or they may tell you what you need to buy from the store. There may also be a natural remedy that might ease your dog’s pain.
If you do buy over the counter drugs for your dog, ensure that you read the leaflet carefully because doses can vary depending on the dog breed and size. Also, make sure that the medicine is for treating the correct symptoms that your dog has, because names of medicines can be confusing.
It might be a good idea, if the medicine is in a tablet form, to mix it in with your dog’s food to make sure that he or she takes it, because dogs can be fussy with taking any type of medicine. I would definitely consult your vet before you go ahead and buy your dog some over the counter medicine, though, to ensure that it is the best thing to do and that there is not a much simpler solution that you may have overlooked. They will know what is best for your dog.

My vet told me not to give a dog any pain-relievers. They have completely different bodies than humans and can overdose easily. It is very difficult to determine the right dosage for a dog and I don't advise it simply because we can't be sure that the pain-reliever is non-toxic to him or her. I suggest taking the dog to your vet and asking about getting medicine meant for canines in pain.

Mayfly is definately right!!! I am a vet nurse and have seen many poisoning cases and death result from use of ibuprofen (as well as many other human drugs) these DO NOT even work the same way in dogs so while you may be poisoning them- they won't be getting any relief from pain!! The mode of death by these drugs is particularly unpleasant- severe internal bleeding usually occurs

Your vet likes to make money. Everyone I know gives aspirin to their dogs or horses. The only thing you don't give asprin to is a cat.

You can give aspirin to a dog or a horse but not a cat.

It would suit you best to first confirm with your vet. Vets have been known to prescribe children's aspirin or benadryl for pets. They have also been known to warn against the giving of Tylenol or ibuprofen to pets since the pets find it hard to digest. As it is drugs stay in their systems for a long time.

I have a 9 1/2 year old Great Dane. 185 pounds. He has hip dysplasia and severe arthritis in his right hind leg. His leg is getting very weak, and rotates in and under when he walks. He been on Rimadyl before, and the vet did blood work on his liver because of the Rimadyl and everything came back OK. Now she won't renew the prescription unless she sees him first. Well, he won't get in the car, too frail and scared to jump up and down. I just want something to alleviate the pain in the last few months of his life. Apart from that, he is happy and eats well, just does not move much anymore.

I have an 80 lb dog I give 325 mg of Bayer aspirin to. So I would say 2 or 2 1/2 for your dog.

I have a 1100 lb horse I give 10 aspirin to. Or 6 Aleve. He is old and just needs to be out of pain.

Just make sure he has something in his stomach. The Rimadyl can tear up a dogs stomach so his is probably pretty sensitive by now.

Hope your baby gets out of pain!

My 3 dogs who are geriatric take Rimadyl, an antiinflammatory and pain reliever. This med was prescribed by my vet. They have, in the past, taken an aspirin but it should given at the vets discretion as it can cause g.i. bleeding. I might consider aleve but only at the advice of the vet. I understand Tylenol is harmful. After many years of having multianimals, I've found it's always good to make that phone call to the vet or go to Barnes & Noble and buy home vet book. Lots of great ideas and very interesting.
I also do some range of motion on my dogs joints..at the vets suggestion. They love it.
Good luck!

No it can kill the animal. Baby aspirin can be used, but only a small amount. Call a vet first
