Why Would Dog Chew Hair Off Certain Spot On Back Intill Sore?

A dog will chew on it's back end as a response to a flea bite. Even if a flea bites a dog on the head, they will itch on there back end. Check the dog for fleas and even if you can't see any it doesn't mean they aren't there. Put your dog on a monthly flea control like Advantage or Frontline. This should end the chewing.

your dog may have "hot spots" which is a skin condition called "moist dermatitis" that can be treated with sulfodene lotion.  My dog gets this condition occasionally.  I poured some of the oily lotion on the spots and rubbed it in gently.  Quote from the bottle "these skin irritations may be accompanied by itching so intense that the animal rubs, scratches, and bites incessantly.  Other signs associated with these skin inflamamations include hair loss, redness, scaling and secondary infection".  I get it at wal-mart, but pet shops also carry it.
