Likely is is because her skin is itching her. There are several things that can cause this: Parasites like fleas, rashes from chemical exposure, or allergies. If you can't afford a trip to the vet then go to the pet store and get some anti-itch spray and use it according to the directions. Inspect her carefully and see if you find any fleas on her skin. If you do then wash her with anti-flea shampoo and put a flea color on her. If this doesn't work then call your local animal shelter and ask them if they can refer you to a low-cost vet.

There is a theory that cats who are at the bottom of the hierarchy get depressed and pull out their hair in frustration. I had a cat like that, and out of my three cats he was a the most emotionally dysfunctional. He'd pull out his hair in clumps and leave bald spots. I was told he needed more affection and grooming and he got better. Some cats take out their feelings of isolation out on themselves. And learning from the cat behaviorist that he was depressed, I never ignored him after that. After that, he recovered and lived a long and very content 18 years.

Your cat is suffering from flea allergy that is why she is losing her hair. To treat this kind of allergy you can give it antibiotics. Use of special kind of shampoos can cure it from this disease. Some cats also suffer from hair loss due to "Follicular Dysplsia". That can be caused by improper nutrition so you give it proper food. Wash cat coat with some good antibiotic soap to get rid of this allergy. Also, give it some food supplement that can fulfill amount of nutrition required in her body.

She may be simply grooming/cleaning herself and pulling out old dead hair, or pulling at knots in her fur.  Or she may have a skin irritation  caused by an allergy to fleas or something in the garden which is making her itchy and she's trying to relieve herself of the itch. Is she pulling out fur in just one place, or all over her body?  Check for any signs of irritation, pink, dry, flaky skin. If any signs are present, then it's probably a good idea to get her checked over by a vet who can then treat her accordingly.

My cat is also pulling out her hair. I have 3 cats, and she is at the bottom of the totem poll. She is a rescue from being a feral and therefore is very neophobic and timid. She only recently started pulling out clumps of hair. I think it may be that she needs more attention? Any other suggestions? I have checked them for fleas and see no problem. They also eat well, are happy, and a good weight, it is just this one cat.

My boyfriend and I adopted a kitty cat about 8 months ago. We were told that he was about 12yrs old.  I have always been a dog person, not knowing anything about cats, but I know this ... They don't usually like jalepeneo chips or steel your 12oz prime rib or insist on eating your coffee ice cream or key lime yogart. He yells at us everytime we go into the kitchen or into the fridge. He insists on sitting on our necks or pawing our faces till we actually meet nose to nose like hes the domanating male incharge. Within the past week I have noticed a change where he seems to need more attention from us and its overbearing... I have also found even cut chuncks of hair on my sofa and more then usual scabs on his body. Any suggestions?

It can be a behavioral thing or your cat has problem of fleas,
mange, ringworm (a fungal infection), allergies, immune mediated disease and bacterial infections and you must consult with the vet.

Our outdoor cat is loosing clumps of hair.  You can run your hand through his back and if you put any pressure through it, a lot of hair comes out with your hand.  Is this something to be concerned about?
